Safe Treats for Parrots

Pellets should make up the foundation of a healthy parrots diet (60-80% of the total diet), but there are a number of healthy foods you can also offer to provide not only balanced nutrition but give your bird something fun to eat and enjoy. Here is a list of healthy food options for your bird.


Vegetables (Fresh or Cooked/Steamed)*

Broccoli, Cauliflower, Celery, Squash, Tomatos, Cooked Plain Sweet Potatoes, Cooked Plain Beans (black, kidney, etc.), Fresh Beans, Peas, Green Beans, Sugar Peas, Snap Peas, Lettuces, Endive, Collard Greens, Turnip Greens, Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Cooked Artichokes, Asperagus, Broccoli Rape, Unsalted Enamame (soybeans), Lima Beans, Carrots, Turnips, Jicama, Parsely, Cilantro, Basil, Swiss Chard, Bok Choy, Chickpeas, Cucumber, Bell Peppers, Chili Peppers, Zucchini 

* - avoid canned vegetables due to high salt content. 



Apples, Bananas, Oranges, Lemons, Limes, Pears, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, Grapes, Cherries (pit removed), Peaches (pit removed), Nectarines (pit removed), Plumbs (pit removed), Plantains, Mandarins, Targerines, Mangoes, Papayas, Melons, Pineapple, Apricots (pit removed), Grapefruits

* - do not give your birds the seeds or pits from fruits, avoid canned fruits due to high levels of added sugars



Wheat Bread, Whole Grain Bread, Plain Whole Wheat Pasta, Plain Vegetable Pastas, Plain Chickpea Pastas


Nuts (Unsalted)

Almonds, Walnuts, Macademia Nuts, Brazil Nuts, Pecans, Pistachios
